Neighborhood Update: June 2014

Dear Neighbor,

Construction continues on RIC’s new Research Hospital, located at 355 East Erie Street. This is an update on all that has been completed on site in the last month, and also to keep you apprised of what to expect in the upcoming weeks.

As you may have noticed, the south elevator hoist is now operational to level three. The hoist will facilitate the movement of manpower and supplies until permanent elevators are completed. A second hoist will be installed on the east side of the site at a date to be determined. We will share additional details with you as they are finalized.

Last month, three floors of parking garage decks were completed, and the core was jumped two additional levels. We are currently working to complete the seventh floor decks and the core of the building between levels nine and ten. The core and decks will continue to be our primary focus over the coming weeks. In addition, interior build outs will begin on the lower levels of the structure, so you may notice activity continuing in those areas.

Overall, site operations will remain consistent with what you have experienced during the past months, including typical construction hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. You will notice some activity on site outside of these times, including the hoist mentioned above; primarily when workers arrive and depart their work stations daily. Additionally, as the building rises during this phase of construction, you may begin to notice building lighting. The majority of lighting will be controlled by a timer to minimize neighborhood impacts, however a portion of the lighting (i.e., stairs, etc.) is required to be on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for life safety in the event of an emergency.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns related to the construction of RIC’s new Research Hospital, please do not hesitate to contact me at mhoffmann@ric.org or 312-238-7522.

Thank You,

Melissa Hoffmann
