Travel and Accommodations for
Traveling to RIC
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) Global Patient Services (GPS) team works with every patient to provide fully accessible world-class care. No matter where you are in the country or the world, the GPS team makes RIC feel like it is in your backyard.
We can coordinate national/international air ambulance flights including the ground ambulance trips from the airport as needed. While you are in Chicago we will also provide ongoing assistance to coordinate local transportation from your temporary housing to the hospital or clinic where you will be receiving care. If you are driving to RIC from out of state, we can provide overnight parking for your vehicle through our valet service at the hospital.
Housing for patients and families
At RIC, families are a central part of the rehabilitation team. We make sure family members have a comfortable home-away-from-home, close to the hospital or site of care.
Convenient, accessible housing is available to patients and families participating throughout system of care.
Patients and family members rest comfortably in extended-stay facilities or hotels, with amenities tailored to their needs. Most housing is just a few blocks from the hospital. RIC works closely with an on-campus Ronald McDonald House for pediatric families who prefer this low-cost, communal housing alternative. RIC Place, an on-campus Hospital Hospitality House located on the 7th floor of the 15-floor Ronald McDonald House, provides eight guest rooms, with private baths, for adults receiving care at RIC. See more about RIC Place here. Your Care Manager in GPS can assist with placement at either of these facilities.
RIC also has a variety of temporary housing options available all within a short walk or cab ride to the hospital. There are a large number of hotels in the neighborhood from luxury accommodations at The Peninsula, Four Seasons, and Ritz Carlton to more affordable options at the Red Roof Inn, Hyatt, or Marriott.
There are also several extended stay hotels that offer kitchenette suites and are set up for longer stays. Furnished one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments can be rented through Chicago’s network of corporate housing companies.
