Travel and Accommodations for International Patients
Traveling to RIC
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) Global Patient Services (GPS) team works with every international patient to provide fully accessible world-class care. No matter where you are in the world, the GPS team makes RIC feel like it is in your backyard. We can coordinate international air ambulance flights including the ground ambulance trips from the airport as needed. We can also arrange to have an interpreter meet you and your loved one(s) at the airport if needed to assist with the initial arrival, check-in process and orientation. While you are in Chicago we will also provide ongoing assistance to coordinate local transportation from your temporary housing to the hospital or clinic where you will be receiving care.
Housing for Patients and Families
At RIC, families are a central part of the rehabilitation team. We make sure family members have a comfortable home-away-from-home, close to the hospital or site of care. Convenient, accessible housing is available to patients and families participating throughout system of care.
Families of patients at our flagship hospital in downtown Chicago can rest comfortably in extended-stay facilities or hotels, with amenities tailored to their needs. Most housing is just a few blocks from the hospital. RIC PLACE, an on-campus hospital hospitality house located within the nearby Ronald McDonald House provides well-appointed, private bedrooms/baths on a unit for eight families with a communal kitchen and family room on the floor.
RIC also has a variety of temporary housing options available all within a short walk or cab ride to the hospital. There are a large number of hotels in the neighborhood from luxury accommodations at The Peninsula, Four Seasons, and Ritz Carlton to more affordable options at the Red Roof Inn, Hyatt, or Marriott.
There are also several extended stay hotels that offer kitchenette suites and are set up for longer stays. Furnished one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments can be rented through Chicago’s network of corporate housing companies.
