Our goal is to ensure that a conceptualized project becomes a working mechanism. We assist in both mechanical and electrical design, support, and fabrication. We are dedicated to providing professional service and quality workmanship, and are personally invested in good science and education.
What we do
We design, fabricate, and evaluate electro-mechanical scientific instruments. We provide consultation services to ensure that your project is designed correctly for fabrication, assembly and operation. We approach projects and ideas with an eye on precision, functionality and safety. We repair and/or modify existing devices and fixtures to suit your needs. We are here to assist you with all of your mechanical and electronics needs.
About the Shop
The Shop is a full-service facility that provides a space for machining, fabrication, assembly and testing of mechanical and electrical devices for projects. The Shop is located on the 14th floor of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), in room 1493.
The Shop team consists of mechanical and electrical engineering support, and a professional instrument maker. Together they provide design assistance, consultation, and fabrication services to Shop clients. The team specializes in the fabrication of experimental research and prototype apparatuses.
Shop staff also provides training in the areas of electronic and instrument assembly, Shop safety, and machine and tool operation for Shop users. Some equipment and tools are available on loan but must be signed out as indicated in the facility.
