Neuralplasticity Lab

The principle aims of the Neuroplasticity Laboratory are to better understand the cortical control of human movement and to develop movement- and stimulation-induced techniques for enhancing motor system plasticity. To meet these aims our research brings together the sciences of human neurophysiology and human movement. We are currently determining whether there is a cortical contribution to abnormal upper limb muscle synergies following stroke; if repetitive magnetic stimulation of stroke survivors’ motor cortex enhances hand function; and we are assessing three different techniques of cortical stimulation as candidate adjuvants to walking re-training following stroke.
