The Business of Employing People with Disabilities: Four Case Studies


Why is this study needed?

One of the most prominent reasons the unemployment rate among people with disabilities hovers around 70% is the belief of employers that there are significant economic costs to employing people with disabilities.

How will this study help patients and rehabilitation stakeholders?

This project delineates strategies that promote successful employment of people with disabilities through the analysis of in-depth interviews and documentary evidence of four firms.

What are the project objectives?

  • Delineate strategies for successful employment of people with disabilities.
  • Generate four case studies of firms, and an academic multi-case study report.

How will the project objectives be achieved?

Four business case studies and an academic multi-case study report will be produced which focus on the strategies for hiring and maintaining people with disabilities.

What agency funded the project?

Social Security Administration, through the Disability Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.
