- Study Objective
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of a procedure called “cortical stimulation” as an additional treatment to regular speech and language treatment. Cortical stimulation involves the temporary surgical placement of an electrode (tiny electrical wires) onto a small area of the major membrane (called the Dura) that covers and protects the brain. These wires then provide electrical stimulation to the brain during speech and language therapy. This research study hopes to discover that when cortical stimulation is combined with speech and language rehabilitation, subjects will experience a fuller recovery of language function than through rehabilitation alone.
