Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago International Center
Welcome to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) International Center. Founded in 1954, RIC has gained a worldwide reputation for patient care, research and educating health professionals on physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Since 1991, RIC has been ranked the "#1 Rehabilitation Hospital in America" by U.S. News & World Report. People from around the globe choose RIC because of our expertise in treating a range of conditions, from the most complex ones, including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, stroke and traumatic brain injury, to the more common, such as arthritis, chronic pain and sports injuries. Many people also come to RIC because of our specialized services, including Assistive Technology, Prosthetics and Orthotics and Vocational Rehabilitation , which help individuals lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Another reason people choose RIC is for our ability to provide rehabilitation care for patients of all ages - from children to adults. Located in the heart of Chicago, RIC's international patients appreciate the rich cultural diversity of the city and find comfort in finding a home away from home.
RIC offers several levels of care — inpatient, outpatient and day rehabilitation, according to the special needs of each patient. At all levels of treatment, specialists from many disciplines are brought together to help patients progress. RIC also offers alternative treatments and therapies based on a patient's situation, including acupuncture and massage, among others, along with a dedicated pediatric unit for children.
Each patient team is led by a physiatrist, a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Other members of the team may include rehabilitation nurses, pediatric-certified nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, psychologists, chaplains, social workers, rehabilitation engineers, recreation therapists, vocational counselors, respiratory specialists and a variety of other health professionals. Through a collaborative approach, each team focuses on helping patients meet their individual goals and get back to life.
Along with expert care, RIC offers inpatients a variety of amenities during their stay including private rooms (many with views), an in-room telephone line, translation services, cable TV equipped with a VCR and access to the Internet.
