Important Changes to 2016 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois
What changes have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois made to its Blue PPO insurance plan available on the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace?
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) has announced that it will be making changes to many of its health insurance products available on the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace for 2016. One of the largest changes which impact patients is that BCBSIL will discontinue its Blue PPO product as of December 31, 2015. Current Blue PPO members who do not take action will be transferred automatically into the BCBSIL Blue Choice plan, a plan that does not include Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC).
Who is affected?
This change affects patients who have enrolled in a Blue PPO plan on the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace. Patients enrolled in a Blue PPO plan through an employer or another group plan are NOT impacted by this change. Medicare patients who purchase Blue Cross supplemental plans also are not affected.
How do these changes affect my access to care at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago?
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is not contracted with Blue Choice plans. Any care received at RIC under a Blue Choice plan would be considered at out-of-network rates which would require the insured be liable for the majority of costs.
