Personal Services for Patients
At the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) we offer a number of services designed to help our patients feel at home.
Your stay at RIC will not only be a period of progress, but also a time of unusual challenges— physical, emotional and spiritual. RIC has chaplains on staff to offer support to patients and families. The chapel, located on the South Mezzanine level of RIC's Flagship Hospital in Chicago, is always open for patients and families who wish to pray, meditate or find solitude for reflection.

Personal Choice Dining
RIC developed Personal Choice Dining to give you greater control over your meal selections. Each day, a member of the Food and Nutrition Department's Host Team will visit you, tell you about your menu options (based on the specific diet prescribed by your physician) and take your order. At meal time, a Host Team member is available to assemble your tray, deliver it to you and help you set up your bed table or open containers. If your physician or dietitian prescribes snacks for you between meals, a member of the Host Team will prepare them and deliver them to your room at the appropriate time.
If you have a family member or friend who wishes to dine with you, we have guest meals available for purchase. These meals may be ordered through members of the Host Team and paid for in the Sprout Café, located on the 2nd floor of RIC's Flagship Hospital in Chicago.
Meals are served at the following times:
Breakfast 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Lunch 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Dinner 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Delivery time of meals varies by floor.
To find out when you will be served, please ask a member of the nursing staff or call 312-238-2433.

RIC is fortunate to have a wonderful group of volunteers (some of whom have been patients at RIC themselves) standing by to provide the extra services that make your stay easier. They can write a letter at your dictation, help you find a book to read or spend time with you when you need company. They are also available to escort you to recreational programs or the chapel, assist you at mealtimes and help you pack personal belonging prior to departure. For more information on obtaining the assistance of a volunteer, please call the Volunteer Resources Department at 312-238-6026.
