Ride for Rehab

Physiatrists face a number of obstacles in providing care to Medicare patients (specifically those with ankle and hip fractures). Because of this disparity, Medicare patients with these diagnoses are at risk of being denied access to inpatient rehabilitation.

To increase awareness of this issue, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) teamed up with The Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to support the Ride for Rehab 2007. RIC's Dr. Joel Press rode his bicycle more than 3,860 miles across the United States, leaving San Francisco on June 12, 2007, and arriving in Boston on August 21, 2007. As a result, the Ride for Rehab generated more than $107,000 through RIC alone and is still growing.
