Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Center (SSRC)
Injuries or conditions that affect the body's mechanical structure—the intricate network of muscles, bones and connective tissues—can cause pain and loss of function that affects every aspect of life. Whether you are experiencing a "bad back," have had an on-the-job, sports or traumatic injury or need pre- or post-surgery conditioning, the medical care you receive can affect your quality of life.
We are specialists in the mechanics of the body
While many providers offer basic therapies, very few of them have physiatrists—physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation—on staff, collaborating throughout each patients care. Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) physicians are board-certified physiatrists and leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:
- Sports and work-related injuries
- Back and neck pain
- Herniated discs
- Orthopedic conditions
- Spinal stenosis
- Sciatica
- Pelvic pain
- Running injuries
- Knee pain
- Shoulder pain
- Foot/Ankle problems
Our clinicians know the symptoms of a patient's condition are only the beginning. More importantly, we use a variety of technological and therapeutic approaches to discover the root cause of the condition. For instance, we may do an assessment of the "kinetic chain"—the way each part of the musculoskeletal system affects the others. For example, back pain can affect the way a person walks. An injury to the knee can affect not only the foot and ankle, but the way a person holds the spine and shoulders as well. At RIC, we treat both the pain and the function.
We offer a wide range of treatments in one location
Physical medicine and rehabilitation applies a comprehensive approach to each patient's care. That is why the team at RIC Spine & Sports Rehabilitation Centers includes physical medicine & rehabilitation physicians (physiatrists), physical therapists, occupational therapists and chiropractors offering a wide range of both traditional and non-traditional treatments and services. The quality of communication and care set RIC apart
RIC physicians are specially trained in the latest technological advances for accurate diagnosis and precise treatment, including spinal or epidural injections, prescribing necessary medications and observing therapy in progress. The close working relationship between physicians and therapists at the RIC Spine & Sports Rehabilitation Centers means that communication is direct and ongoing, with frequent updates on progress and needs. If modifications in a treatment plan are necessary, they can be made quickly to ensure you receive the maximum benefit from your care.
The therapeutic exercises that are part of your treatment plan use the muscles and movements that you will use in your daily life, work and leisure activities. They are designed so that they can be incorporated into your daily routines. Patient education is a key part of every exercise program, so you'll be given both written and visual instructions to aid you in confidently repeating these exercises at home on a daily basis. At the end of your prescribed treatment, your physician will evaluate the progress you have made and report to your primary care physician, if appropriate.
