Meet Len, RIC's Canine Companion

Len, RIC's Therapy Dog Len is a golden Laborador who works full-time at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) Therapeutic Recreation Department as a service dog. In addition to the two years of training to become a service dog, Len's handlers also worked with him through intensive training sessions to learn how to appropriately utilize him with RIC's patients.

As part of his work, Len helps patients by motivating them to meet their goals by encouraging them to use a weaker hand to pet him or throw a toy. His sweet demeanor also motivates patients to walk farther and faster during physical therapy.

Len also helps patients focus on articulating their speech by giving him direct verbal commands such as sit, down and stay.
