Gait Disorders

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) employs a comprehensive team approach to provide rehabilitation services for people with gait issues.

Gait disorders are categorized as difficulty walking due to:

• Physical impairment
• Deformity, amputation
• Neurological impairments (i.e., multiple sclerosis, post-polio)
• Orthopedic surgery/problems
• Body mechanic difficulties

Evaluations are conducted by a physician, therapists and specialists in the Prosthetics & Orthotics Clinical Center. Once physical weaknesses are identified, therapy recommendations and supportive devices such as bracing may be recommended. As a teaching and research hospital, RIC offers patients the value of clinical, technological and research innovations with a Gait Laboratory at the Main Campus, located at 345 E. Superior Street in Chicago.
