Day Rehabilitation
Individuals who have survived a serious illness or injury may have difficulty resuming complex daily activities. The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) DayRehabCenters offer patients an intensive therapeutic environment with full-day, half-day or individualized schedule options. The goal of day rehabilitation is to help patients of all ages:
- Transition back to work or school
- Enhance social and communication abilities
- Practice activities in a home-like environment and in the community with the support and guidance of rehabilitation professionals
Treatment plans are based on comprehensive assessments by therapists and physicians with input from both the patients and their families. Individualized rehabilitation plans are developed based on strengths, impairments, vocational placement and desired level of independence. Therapy may be conducted, not only at our facilities, but also within the context of daily living, such as in the home, community or job site.
Components of day rehabilitation may include various therapies, vocational services, educational services/school re-entry, social work/case management and medical monitoring by physicians and nurses.
In addition, RIC offers many specialized services to support the needs of people with physical disabilities. These services include:
Patients benefit greatly from day rehabilitation; particularly those with more complex conditions like stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, burns and spinal cord injury.
