Internships at the Galvin Health and Fitness Center and the Wirtz Sports Program

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) Helen M. Galvin Health and Fitness Center and Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Sports Program provide interns with a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a highly developed fitness center and in a progressive community-based sports and recreation program. In addition, interns will have an opportunity to spend time with staff and therapists from the clinical departments at RIC, noted as the top ranked rehabilitation hospital since 1991 by U.S. News and World Report.
Interns from undergraduate and graduate programs are accepted from a variety of majors, including but not limited to:
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Community Recreation
- Exercise Physiology
- Sports Management
- Kinesiology
Interns are required to work:
- a minimum ten week placement
- 40 hours per week, including some nights and weekends
Interns will be assigned a supervisor who best fits with their major and goals for the internship. All Therapeutic Recreation majors will be assigned to a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, so they will be eligible to sit for the NCTRC exam.
RIC will provide the intern with office space, clerical support and computer orientation as part of the internship placement. All travel-related expenses directly attributed to assignments will be reimbursed. Allowance for parking will also be available for interns who drive and park in the RIC parking lot.
