Cerebral Palsy

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) recognizes that each person with cerebral palsy has a unique set of physical abilities and medical needs. With this understanding, treatment at RIC begins with a comprehensive evaluation. Our multidisciplinary team consists of physiatrists, therapists and ancillary staff and our expanded treatment team includes neurosurgeons as well as orthopedic surgeons. Collectively, the team identifies factors that might limit functional capabilities and recommends rehabilitation treatment and/or surgical intervention that most benefits the patient.

At RIC, cerebral palsy care is considered over the lifespan of the patient. Services are provided for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients with cerebral palsy. RIC has inpatient therapy, day rehabilitationoutpatient therapy and physician services to support the unique needs of individuals with cerebral palsy.

Outpatient services may be independent of or may directly follow inpatient rehabilitation. The goal in both scenarios is mobility, self-care, education and communication. Other resources available to help cerebral palsy patients include:

Comprehensive pediatric and adult Cerebral Palsy rehabilitation services are offered at several RIC locations.
