Asthma

Breathing problems and anxiety about asthma attacks are a routine part of life for many people. The goal for asthma rehabilitation services is to increase patients' knowledge about asthma and help them minimize its effects on their lives.

At the Northwestern University Cornelius Crane Asthma Center, located at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) main campus, inpatient and outpatient treatment options are available for patients of all ages. Components for comprehensive asthma management include medical evaluation, treatment and education.

The Crane Center is staffed by pulmonologists, allergists, nurse specialists and respiratory therapists who provide comprehensive assessments that include pulmonary testing as well as evaluation of sinus disorders, allergic conditions, environment and occupational triggers, vocal cord dysfunction, gastric reflux disorders, exercise-induced symptoms and stress triggers. Treatment and education programs are individualized and address medication use/abuse, personal asthma triggers and avoidance strategies as well as appropriate exercise programs and coping skills.

Comprehensive asthma and other pulmonary rehabilitation services are offered at RIC's main campus located at 345 E. Superior Street in Chicago, as well as several other RIC locations.
