Services for People with Amputation

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) has a holistic approach to caring for patients. As a result, we have developed a number of specialized services, including:

  • Helen M. Galvin Fitness Center provides a full athletic training facility and activities for people with disabilities including an Amputee Sports Program.
  • Caring for Kids provides activities for children with amputation and congenital limb differences and their families.
  • LIFE Center (opens in new window) provides literature and Web-based materials on all types of health information, disability programs and leisure activities, as well as resources available to assist with community re-integration and home modifications.
  • Professional psychological counseling for patients.
  • Prosthetics & Orthotics Clinical Center
  • Rehabilitation Engineering finds unique solutions to daily problems for people with disabilities.
  • Technology Center assists people with computer access and electronic aids for daily living.
  • RIC Academy publishes and distributes written information and videos for people with all types of physical disabilities, including amputees and their caregivers.
  • UnLIMBited Potential Support Group provides a network of individuals and experience to aid the treatment of chronic pain, including phantom limb pain.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation focuses on consultative training and job placement.
