Prosthetic Training at RIC

After you receive your prosthesis, you will need someone to help you learn how to use it. Our physical and occupational therapists have a great deal of experience with prosthetic skills training.  Communication between the therapist, prosthetist and physician ensures that you are fully able to utilize your artificial limb for optimal function and mobility during and self-care activities.

You don’t have to use a prosthesis in order to benefit from physical or occupational therapy at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). Your physician may suggest that you work with a therapist to prepare yourself for prosthetic fitting.  Even if you choose not to use an artificial limb, our therapists can work with you to improve your mobility and self-care skills.

Before scheduling physical or occupational therapy, you must have a doctor’s referral. To schedule your therapy appointments at RIC’s flagship hospital, please call the Outpatient Therapy department at 312-238-6171.

Physical and occupational therapy are offered at many RIC sites of care. For more information, please call our toll-free Referral and Information Line: 1-800-354-REHAB (7342).
