Support the #1 Rehabilitation Hospital in America
Since our founding in 1954, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) has been committed to Advancing Human AbilityTM through innovative medical treatments and scientific research.
And we’ve succeeded. Today, RIC is widely recognized as the nation’s foremost provider of physical medicine and rehabilitation services. In fact, every year since 1991, U.S. News & World Report has ranked RIC as the #1 Rehabilitation Hospital in America—the only specialty hospital to hold this distinction for more than 20 consecutive years.
Yet we believe our work has only just begun. Under the leadership of our current President and CEO, Dr. Joanne Smith, we’ve expanded our ambitious vision to encompass a more integrated, dynamic and synergistic relationship between clinical care and research in rehabilitation medicine.
Our goal is to advance the ability of every one of our patients so that all of them can live to their fullest potential. Each day, in hundreds of different ways, we make formidable strides in attaining that goal.
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) provides rehabilitation services to thousands of patients with disabilities each year. In addition, through the Searle Research Center RIC conducts the largest physical rehabilitation research effort in the world. Currently there are over 200 active research projects underway, led by 21 full-time scientists and 80 postdoctoral graduate students, medical residents, fellows and scholars.
In RIC’s last fiscal year, ending August 31, 2010, more than $14,000,000 was raised from private sources to support RIC’s priority areas, with more than half coming directly from individuals - individuals like you - who help to make a difference.
