Associate Board Companions (ABCs) are a special group of Board volunteers who work with children on the Pediatrics and Adolescent Unit. This unit serves children from birth to adolescence with a variety of disabilities and is located on the fifth floor of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
The ABCs work with the RIC's Volunteer Resource Department and the rehabilitation staff in providing quality care to the patients by:
- Visiting patients
- Helping patients with activities, individually or in groups
- Helping patients to increase their independence and potential
- ABC schedule: Twice a month on Monday evenings from 6 – 9 p.m.
Board members also have opportunities to volunteer at the RIC's Helen M. Galvin Health & Fitness Center and for ad hoc events such as car seat safety checks. All volunteers must complete Volunteer Orientation and Training prior to participating in volunteer activities.
