RIC's Bionic Arm Featured on ABC as a "Medical Mystery"

RIC patient Claudia Mitchell and Dr. Todd Kuiken were featured on ABC's Primetime Medical Mysteries (opens new window) on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The show explained Dr. Kuiken's procedure allowing some people to control their prostheic arms by just thinking about what they want it to do. Claudia demonstrated the use of her arm and discussed how she has sensation in her missing limb when touchen in certain places on her chest where her nerves were relocated. The procedure is part of Dr. Kuiken's work in the Neural Engineering Center for Artificial Limbs. Claudia is one of several people using "bionic" arms.
