RIC Ranked #1 Rehabilitation Hospital in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report for 22 Consecutive Years

RIC’s Leads by Fusing Scientific Research with Clinical Care at the Bedside

Best HospitalsCHICAGO – The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) has been ranked the #1 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-13 Best Hospitals rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals. The global leader in rehabilitation, RIC has been ranked #1 longer than any other specialty hospital in the nation. With the largest rehabilitation research enterprise in the world, RIC sets the standard in rehabilitation medicine.

RIC retained its top ranking during a year of innovation and growth. “We have made advances at RIC,” said Joanne C. Smith, MD, CEO of RIC. “We opened a new Patient Recovery Unit that added significant inpatient space, and we are pioneering a novel method of care – we have launched the world’s only AbilityLab™, where we’re fusing science and clinical care around patients.  Our novel approach to rehabilitation is beginning to produce better results – we’re getting better and faster at solving problems that are important to our patients, and these insights are fueling the way we’re designing our new Research Hospital.”

The new RIC Research Hospital, which will infuse 21st Century biomedical science into the clinical environment to help patients achieve the best recovery, is scheduled to open in 2016. RIC currently is the top destination for patients from around the world with various conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, limbs and other organ systems, serving more than 52,000 patients from 49 states and 43 countries in the most recent year.
