Dr. Steven Stanos and RIC’s Center for Pain Management Featured on ReachMD XM Radio Show

Dr. Steven Stanos, Medical Director of the RIC Center for Pain Management, was recently featured in two separate segments for ReachMD, a national radio channel designed as a platform for clinical discussion, news and education broadcast on XM satellite radio channel 157.
The first segment, titled “Mechanisms of Chronic Pain,” covers the neurological mechanisms of chronic pain, how and when acute pain transforms to chronic pain and how physicians can determine if their patient can be treated safely with narcotics.

The second segment discusses RIC’s pain “Pain Boot Camp,” an interdisciplinary method to evaluate and treat pain in which a team of physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and nutritional consultants work together with the patient in a formal assessment and pain management program.

RIC’s Center for Pain Management, which recently expanded and relocated to 980 N. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, offers a full-day “boot camp” program which runs for four weeks and is designed to help decrease pain, improve mood, restore normal sleep patterns, maximize function and enhance overall quality of life. It also offers a half-day program and individual therapy and treatment appointments for services such as spinal injections.
The new RIC Center for Pain Management includes an expanded gym for physical and occupational therapy, aerobic and functional capacity testing equipment and dedicated space and equipment for biofeedback and relaxation training. There are also expanded interdisciplinary patient treatment areas including a fully equipped Activities of Daily Living kitchen and patient lounge.
Conditions treated at the RIC Center for Pain Management include:
- Low-back and neck pain
- Myofascial pain and fibromyalgia
- Complex regional pain syndromes
- Neuropathic pain
- Post-traumatic and post-surgical pain conditions
- Spine-related pain
- Pain of unknown origin
