RIC Launches Prince Family Esprit! Program

RIC is now one of the few hospitals in the nation with a program funded specifically to enhance employee morale and spirit!

CHICAGO, IL—Aug. 16, 2012—The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), ranked the #1 rehabilitation hospital in America, launched the Prince Family Esprit! Program designed to offer ongoing education and wellness opportunities for employees. RIC launched this unique program with a large kick-off celebration at its flagship hospital in Chicago and at each of its 50 sites of care throughout Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.

The Prince Family Esprit! Program is made possible through a generous gift from the Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund to recognize, honor and develop the strengths and talents of RIC's dedicated staff.

“The Prince family, longstanding and generous friends to RIC, has provided support for a specific purpose: to enhance RIC employee morale,” Joanne C. Smith, M.D., President and CEO at RIC. “Funding for a program like this is not only incredibly generous, it’s very special and uncommon! We can’t thank the Prince family enough for their generous investment in the spirit of RIC’s talented people, which will make RIC a better place in everything we do!”

The Prince Family Espirit! Program will focus on three main areas—the mind, body and spirit. Employees will have access to live or online courses that provide continuing learning and growth opportunities that inspire the “mind.” Additionally, RIC will launch a number of new wellness initiatives that help employees live longer, stronger, healthier lives. RIC is also implementing new recognition programs and awards that recognize employees’ talent and hard work, boosting their “spirit.” To celebrate the program’s launch, employees were given pedometers to measure their steps and encouraged to take a minimum of 10,000 steps per day to maintain good heart health.

As the day-to-day champions of RIC's vision of Advancing Human Ability™, RIC's committed professionals remain the driving force behind the organization's industry-leading patient treatments and research. Through its strategic focus on fostering employee talent and leadership, RIC has long cultivated an environment of excellence that translates directly into patients' outcomes of regained ability after a traumatic injury such as a brain or spinal cord injury or stroke. The Prince gift builds on this tradition, enabling RIC to make the fullest possible investment in its staff and, thus, in its patients.

“We know that having happy, healthy employees translates to providing better care for patients, so an investment into the well-being and morale of our employees is an investment in our greater vision,” said Laura Ferrio, RN, Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, and “RIC is the best place to work!”
