RIC Women's Health Leader Colleen M. Fitzgerald, MD, Named Chief of Staff

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) today announced that Colleen M. Fitzgerald, MD, has been appointed the new chief of staff representing the hospital’s physiatrists, physicians with specialties in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

In her role as chief of staff, Dr. Fitzgerald will oversee the combined medical staff of attending and consulting physicians and preside over the Medical Executive Committee meetings. She will serve a two-year term until September 2009.

“Dr. Fitzgerald is truly dedicated to fulfilling RIC’s mission– to provide quality, comprehensive rehabilitation care,” said James Sliwa, DO, chief medical officer, chief quality and safety officer at RIC. “I’m confident she will bring a strong sense of leadership to the medical staff and assure RIC continues to deliver world-class care to people with disabilities.”

Currently, Dr. Fitzgerald also serves as the medical director for the Women’s Health Rehabilitation program at RIC specializing in women’s health issues relating to muskoskeletal injuries and conditions caused by pregnancy and post-partum-related pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Fitzgerald earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed an internship in internal medicine at Evanston Hospital.  She then completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at RIC and has since practiced as an attending physician at RIC. Dr. Fitzgerald also is an assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Fitzgerald practices at the RIC flagship hospital located at 345 E. Superior St. in Chicago and at the RIC Spine & Sports Rehabilitation Center at River Forest – 420 Thatcher Ave. in River Forest.
