TRICARE Deputy Director Maj. Gen. Granger Visits RIC

Mitchell, a former Marine, and the world’s first
“Bionic Woman.”

Major General Elder Granger, deputy director and program executive officer of TRICARE Management, the managed healthcare provider for the military, visited RIC to support U.S. military service men and women receiving care at RIC and gather insight on RIC’s world-class clinical care system.

On a tour led by RIC president and CEO, Joanne C. Smith, M.D., Maj. Gen. Granger saw RIC’s clinical care operations, met with inpatient military patients including as U.S. Army Srgt. Eric Edmundson and toured RIC’s world-renowned Neural Engineering Center for Bionic Medicine, where he met with RIC’s first “Bionic Woman,” and former U.S. Marine, Claudia Mitchell.

Maj. Gen. Granger serves as the principal advisor to the assistant secretary of defense on the Department of Defense health plan policy and is responsible for the operation of the Department of Defense’s managed health care program.

In March, RIC was designated as a rehabilitation care provider for U.S. military personnel with severe injuries.
