RIC Physician Featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition”

Dr. Kristi Kirschner

Dr. Kristi Kirschner, an RIC physiatrist and director of the RIC Donnelley Family Disability Ethics Program is featured Sept. 13, 2007, on "Morning Edition", a program on National Public Radio (NPR), as part of a segment discussing barriers in access to healthcare for people with disabilities.

As a renowned ethicist, Dr. Kirschner's commentary on the physical, communication and attitudinal barriers to healthcare for people with disabilities is complementary to her published commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) which appeared this spring and addressed these key issues.

Dr. Kirschner discusses her experience in healthcare and how she helped to start a clinic at RIC "specifically for women with disabilities" after she had heard stories from her patients about how they couldn’t get access to healthcare, specifically reproductive healthcare.

The segment can be heard and read on the NPR Web site. Follow this link to the story.
