Neighborhood Update: May 2015

Dear Neighbor,

As you are aware, construction continues on the Ability Institute of RIC, located at 355 East Erie Street. Steel work and concrete deck pours on the building are substantially complete. The roof deck structure has also been completed, although mechanical equipment and a screen wall will be installed on the roof in the coming months.  This will add approximately 25 feet to the final elevation. Exterior windows have been installed through level 22 and the entire building is anticipated to be enclosed by the end of the summer. Interior build outs, including mechanical piping, duct work and drywall, are being completed on various levels throughout the building and will also remain a primary focus in the coming months.

Exterior construction work and full manpower levels (between 350 to 400 workers) continue Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and regular, permitted work will continue to occur with a small crew on Sundays. Additionally, we want to make you aware of certain deliveries occurring beyond typical work hours. This activity will entail a limited crew remaining on site to unload and distribute materials via the exterior hoists up until the 10 p.m. All dates and times are City of Chicago permit and weather dependent. All work will be performed consistent with the City noise code requirements.

Now that the building is nearing full enclosure, lighting will be similar to that of an operational building.  Namely, interior lighting will be maintained at all times throughout the building.  In addition, the ground floor and perimeter will remain illuminated for safety and security purposes.  Lights on unenclosed floors will remain shielded and controlled by a timer to minimize the neighborhood impact as much as possible. We will continue to monitor the shields and timers, and make adjustments where feasible on these floors. A portion of the lighting (i.e., stairs, etc.) on the unenclosed floors is required to be on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for life safety in the event of an emergency.

We wish you and your family a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! As always, should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at mhoffmann@ric.org or 312-238-7522. We truly appreciate your patience during the development of this cutting edge new facility, and look forward to many more years of partnership with the Streeterville community.

Thank You,
Melissa Hoffmann
