Neighborhood Update: April 2015
Construction continues on RIC’s new Research Hospital, located at 355 East Erie Street. Steel work on the building is substantially complete and concrete deck pours are ongoing, expected to be complete in the coming weeks. The roof deck has also been completed, although mechanical equipment and a screen wall will be installed on the roof in the coming months, adding approximately 25 feet to the final elevation. Exterior windows have been installed through level 19 and additional floors are scheduled to be completed this month. Interior build outs, including mechanical piping, duct work and drywall, are being completed on various levels throughout the building. This week, the south tower crane is being dismantled and removed from the site. This operation will be completed on site during normal work hours using the north crane. Additionally, we are wrapping up major steel operations on the primary structure. At a later date,
In the coming month, site operations will remain consistent with what you have experienced in recent weeks. Concrete operations, window instillation and interior build outs will continue to be the primary focus. As a reminder, full construction work and manpower levels (between 250 to 350 workers) continues to take place Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Regular, permitted work will continue to occur with a limited crew on Sundays, and we will provide advance notice whenever possible. Additional information related to work hours can be found in our previous update.
Although the days are getting longer, you may still notice the building lighting. The site is illuminated for safety purposes during loading/unloading operations, arrivals, departures and regular work hours. The majority of lights are shielded and controlled by a timer to minimize the neighborhood impact as much as possible. We continue to monitor the shields and timers, and make adjustments where feasible. A portion of the lighting (i.e., stairs, etc.) is required to be on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for life safety in the event of an emergency.
