Nursing Vision, Mission & Philosophy at RIC

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) Nursing Vision, Mission, Hallmarks & Philosophy demonstrate the role nurses play in restoring, maintaining and promoting maximal health and independence for our patients so they can achieve the best life possible. Conceptually, RIC's nursing framework is based on the Roy Adaptation Model. Nursing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation aims to modify the focal, contextual, or residual stimuli in a manner that seeks to promote adaptation and minimize ineffective responses.

Mission

Nursing at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is dedicated to providing extraordinary care to assist individuals with disabilities and/or chronic illness in restoring, maintaining and promoting his or her maximal health and in achieving the best life possible through integration into the community.

RIC nurses provide care to individuals of all ages, races, cultures, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. Our nurses specialize and excel in providing rehabilitation nursing care to patients with orthopedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, stroke and a variety of conditions resulting in the loss of functional impairment.

RIC's Professional Nursing Practice Model illustrates the elements of the Mission and the foundation of rehabilitation nursing at RIC. Education, research and advocacy are the foundation for excellence in patient care.

Philosophy

Nursing at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago integrates the essential components of the mission: patient care, education, research, advocacy and community service. The nursing care of patients is holistic and attends to the physical, socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual needs. Each nurse has the responsibility for delivering patient care that embraces the patient's values and lifestyle and acknowledges the importance of enabling patient autonomy and patient satisfaction. This approach embraces a continuum of services that encompasses every level of care throughout the RIC System.
